Signs That You Should Stop Driving

Consider limiting or stopping driving if you are noticing one or more of the following:

  • Frequent "close calls" -- almost crashing
  • Dents and scrapes on the car, mailboxes, garage doors, curbs, etc.
  • Getting lost, especially in familiar locations
  • Having trouble seeing signs. traffic signals, and pavement markings
  • Responding more slowly to unexpected situations, or having trouble moving your foot from the gas to the brake pedal; confusing the brake and gas pedals
  • Not being able to judge distances such as gaps in traffic at intersections and on highway entrance and exit ramps
  • Increased agitation or anger, using the horn frequently, or other drivers are honking at you
  • Being distracted or difficulty with concentrating while driving
  • Pain or difficulty turning your head around to check behind you while backing up or changing lanes
  • Getting traffic tickets or "warnings" from police
