Have you effectively communicated your healthcare wishes and appointed someone to make decisions on your behalf if you are unable to? National Healthcare Decisions Day (NHDD), part of Annual Healthcare Decisions Week in Virginia (April 16-22, 2018), exists to inspire, educate and empower the public and providers about the importance of advance care planning.

Please join us for tips and tools on how to start the conversation, and learn what legal documents you should have in place to provide peace of mind and avoid unnecessary emotional burdens and financial costs for you and your family. We will discuss the ins and outs of Advance Medical Directives/Living Wills, Health Care Powers of Attorney, HIPAA Authorizations, DNRs, POSTs and more. We will also hear practical considerations from the physician's and care manager's perspectives, and try to dispel some of the myths surrounding end of life decisions and treatment.

Speakers:

Dr. Rahel Yirga, Medical Director, Allegiance Aging Care Services
Megan Descutner, MSN, RN, CMC, CDP, Care Manager, Golden Pond ElderCare Strategies, LLC
Dawn Dale, JD, LLM, CFP®, Partner, SageTrust Law Group, PLLC
Melinda Merk, JD, LLM, CFP®, Partner, SageTrust Law Group, PLLC

Continental breakfast will be provided.

Please register in advance by visiting https://www.sagetrustlaw.com/nhddworkshop.

The Spelling Bee has moved! Come join us at Ashleigh at Lansdowne, 44124 Woodridge Parkway, Leesburg, VA.

You're Invited!

Host: Toni Reinhart

Come cheer on our seniors to see who has the best spellers! Open to the public, refreshments and door prizes. The charity this year is Honor Flight Network.

We are still signing up communities - email Toni at reston@comfortkeepers.com if your community is interested in competing.

Come on out! There will be:

  • Prizes
  • Trophies for the winner and winning senior living community
  • Refreshments

Do you have the best spellers in your community?  Here’s how it works:

  • Senior Centers, Assisted Living Communities, Independent Living Communities and other groups of seniors 55+ sign up to participate
  • Packets will be distributed to participating communities in June with the rules, sample words, and tips for studying
  • Communities run spelling bees in August to pick a winner and an alternate (let us know if you want help running your spelling bee)
  • Send your winner and alternate to the Spell-Off in September (don’t forget your cheering section!)

We are supporting Honor Flight Network this year, a non-profit organization dedicated to providing veterans with honor and closure.
